Strategies For Learning and Retention of New Vocabulary
Many university and high school teachers focus on teaching vocabulary, yet feel unsuccessful in this regard. In order to stay current with progressive learning practices, teachers are trying their best to incorporate new methods for vocabulary learning and retention. This workshop focuses on strategies and tips for learning and remembering new words in a meaningful, interactive, and memorable way that is guaranteed to hold students’ interest. The workshop demonstrates vocabulary learning, repeated usage, and contextualization. The participants will also learn how to set students up for autonomous learning. By reviewing some of the exercises and activities together during the workshop, teachers will have first-hand knowledge and practice with these methodologies.

Amy King, an English Language Fellow at Hanoi Metropolitan University, has more than 20 years of experience in the field of English teaching and adult learning in the United States and overseas. She holds a BS in Speech and an MS in Journalism from Northwestern University and also earned a TESOL Certificate from American University in Washington, DC. Amy has facilitated workshops for English language teachers on Cooperative Learning, Formative Language Assessment, Project-Based Learning and Action Research.
