VietTESOL Association officially announced a Call for Proposals for its 5th VietTESOL International Convention (VIC) in April 2019 in commemoration of the 1st anniversary of Vietnam's first national TESOL association. Also known as VietTESOL International Convention 2019, this year annual Convention will be hosted by the University of Foreign Languages, Hue University in the Central Vietnam city of Hue from October 11-12, 2019. The Convention aims to bring together teachers, practitioners, researchers and research scholars in the field of English language teaching from all over the world to exchange ideas and share their experiences and research results on all aspects of English language education. Authors are invited to submit their proposal(s) online at the convention website by July 30, 2019.

Four member of the VietTESOL Association (VTA) Executive Board attended TESOL International Convention 2019 in Atlanta, March 12-15, 2019 which convened as many as 6,000 English language teaching professionals from all over the world. While attending the world's largest TESOL conference, the VTA Board members had a meeting with the leadership of TESOL International Association to disucss VTA's TESOL affiliation membership potential, attended the Convention's major events and promoted the 5th VietTESOL International Convention to ELT colleagues from all over the world. Funded by the Regional English Language Office, U.S. Embassy in Vietnam, the visit aimed to raise VTA's international awareness and and to expand its professional network.

In an effort to “Connect English Language Teachers and Engage Communities”, VietTESOL Association Dialogues Fall 2018 was held on October 11th at the meeting room of Hanoi University of Industry. This event was mutual support of VietTESOL Association and Hanoi University of Industry, entitled to celebrating the successful formation of the trusted platform which involves all of the stakeholders in support of the strengthening of English language education in different settings. Pertaining to this platform, it highlighted careful preparation for the broad variety of undiscounted activities fostering research and practice which substantially fills the significant beginning of professional development.

Serving to lead a transformation, VietTESOL Association Dialogues Fall 2018: Cooperation for Sustainable Development looked after gathering weighed voices from related stakeholders and Board of Directors of VietTESOL Association. Victoriously, the event aligned with distinguished parties and committed itself to discovering the pressing educationally critical issues. The issues are closely entwined with the careful planning for professional development of ELT teachers, professionals and researchers in Vietnam. Followed by much of paramountcy, the session involved the collection of stakeholders’ expectations from VTA, together with its highlights on quality activities stakeholders can give their hands to.

Not only did the event opt for the celebrations regarding the remarks about the founded VTA this year but it also attracted the growing collection of concerns about the directions, accompanied by the strategies to uplift the association to a higher level of success. Right after we were informed about why the event was justified, we cheered ourselves up and raised our spirits. All of us trusted the platform would be potentially an outcome that we have expected for a long time. We saw the smiles on everyone’s faces since they recognized the upcoming benefits that will have to be brought out when it comes to English Language Education (ELE) and other related aspects in Vietnam. ELE, in particular, is regarded as widely accepted for inclusion of all ethnic groups, which stands out the expectations on which diversity is heightened and support is always ready to emerge.

Without any generous support from the educational stakeholders, e.g. Board of Directors, University Professors, Associate Professors, Senior Lecturers, Lecturers, Educators, Practitioners, Curriculum Designers, and Policy Makers, who represented the varying population of ethnic groups in the numerous institutional settings, the event wouldn’t have enjoyed a great success. Therefore, the cultural difference no longer signifies as it is necessarily existing in the wake of the respectfully well-noted voices shared among participants. In such, the platform appears as a powerful community of sharing in which to be listened to and updated on the existing problems in each of the regions that each participant represents. The problems are centered on, but not limited to, an array of following highlighted areas:

  • Sustainable development;
  • Developmental strategy;
  • Teacher education;
  • Teachers’ professional development (PD);
  • Curriculum development;
  • Learning experience;
  • Educational policy;
  • Academic & administrative human resources;
  • Distributed materials of learning;
  • Education for the remote and underserved ethnic groups;
  • Teaching & learning research;
  • Teaching & learning practice;

Teachers' voiced perspectives on the institutional units' expectations at Dialogues Fall 2018

It is hoped that this event would inspire others schools of thought with great care. VietTESOL Association is coming to grow faster and faster. The scaffolding communities will be increased in size based on a variety of upcoming large-sized activities and projects, closely aligning with the desires of engaging the wide Vietnamese community of educational stakeholders. As commonly shared by the VietTESOL Association, teachers will have opportunities to better enhance teaching experience and expand a communications network; thus, developing professionally in a sustainable manner.
