Good learning materials are keys to success in language classroom. This webinar reviews some principles of evaluating internet resources on five common criteria including authority, objectivity, accuracy, currency and usability. Besides, the webinar helps English teachers to prepare learning materials more effectively by introducing simple free online tools like ED Toefl iBT, Rubistar for Teachers, YouGlish, Lyrics Training, Rewordify, Wordle, Tubequizard etc. and several resourceful TESOL websites through hands-on activities. The webinar is useful for K-12 teachers who are trying to enrich their language classes with interactive, engaging and fun internet-based learning activities.
In this six-week course from 10th September to 18th October 2020, participants will be introduced to a classroom-based research process, known as action research by Trainer Amy King-Virtual English Language Fellow, U.S. Embassy in Vietnam. They will engage with each component of the action research process to develop an implementation plan. Upon completion of the course, participants will be ready to conduct action research in their own classrooms and be prepared to present their findings at professional conferences.
The six live workshops from 9-11 am every Sunday will focus on each aspect of the action research cycle: inquire, plan, act, observe, and reflect. Following a literature review, participants will identify a problem and select a change in practice to resolve it. They will determine which data to collect to evaluate their change in practice. Participants will also be introduced to data analysis resources they can use once they have implemented their plan and gathered data. Since participants may wish to present their action research at conferences, the course will also address presentation skills. Live Workshops on Zoom flatform from 9-11 am Vietnam time every Sunday morning will be scheduled as follows:
In addition to the workshops, the course will include consultation sessions (in office hours on weekdays from Monday to Thursday) that will enable individualized feedback on participants’ action research plans. Participants will book the slots to work 1-1 or in groups to discuss their action plan and receive feedback and professional support from trainer Amy.
Drawing on Littlewood’s continuum From focus on forms to focus on meaning (2002, p.322; 2013, p.14), this webinar aims to review and open a discussion on the pedagogy accompanying some of the current curricula in use at secondary ELT in Vietnam. The webinar will start with an analysis of the continuum in relation to CLT and TBLT – the teaching approaches in practice at Vietnamese schools. Variations of curriculum design and class activities will be addressed in this section. In the next two sections, textbooks and lesson plans from the mainstream curricula (i.e. the Tieng Anh series by MOET) and some others in use at private schools will be reviewed against the continuum to examine their focuses and thus, their potential for communicative language learning. Finally, a discussion on variations for implementing the textbooks prescribed in current secondary ELT settings will be open. Ideas and opinions in how to teach communicatively using the textbooks and materials available are welcome from the webinar panel and the audience.
Conducted by an American English teacher trainer, the formative assessment course is designed to be an interactive virtual classroom experience for teachers. The course will be run asynchronously using Canvas and Zoom as the two platforms. The six-week course is designed to engage teachers who have both limited and high levels of education on formative assessment. Participants should expect to be active in the class and the final week will involve participant presentations showcasing how they may utilize formative assessment through lesson plans. Each class will be structured to incorporate formative assessments to help build understanding on how they may be used. Teachers who attend and participate in each class will receive a certificate of completion.
The course will be divided into two groups of 25 participants each. One group is exclusive for K-12 English language teachers and the other for college/university English language teachers. You can choose your preferred group by indicating your primary employment category in the registration form.
The tuition fee for this course is VND 1,000,000 (one million Vietnamese Dong) to be paid in advance. Successful participants whose attendance is 80% or above will be reimbursed 50% or VND 500,000.
Participants in this course has chance to win a prepaid ticket to participate in TESOL 2020 Virtual Convention, July 16-18, 2020. More information can be found here: https://www.tesol.org/conventiononline2020

We will share information to help you understand the process and some tips that you can take actions for your coming conferences.
The workshop primarily aims to get the participants understand the structure of a conventional abstract; draft proper abstracts, using key information provided; compose abstracts from their own research; and critically analyze, comment, and edit their peers’ abstracts. The workshop serves as a hands-on experience for EFL teachers to formally introduce their classroom practices at academic conferences and early career researchers to be accepted more easily by the academic world.
