VietTESOL Association is proud to announce the first keynote speaker, Dr. Nick Saville, who will present at 5th VietTESOL International Convention 2019 to be held in Hue City, October 11-12.
Dr. Nick Saville is currently Director of the Research and Thought Leadership Division for Cambridge Assessment. He is Secretary-General of the Association of Language Testers in Europe (ALTE), on the Board of Trustees for The International Research Foundation for English Language Education (TIRF), a Board member of Cambridge University’s Institute for Automated Language Teaching and Assessment (ALTA), and a visiting professor for the ICT-Assisted Interpreter Training Project at Xiamen University, China.
He was a founding associate editor of the journal Language Assessment Quarterly and is currently joint editor of the Studies in Language Testing (SiLT, CUP), previously with the late Prof Cyril Weir, and editor of the English Profile Studies series (EPS, CUP). He co-authored a volume on Learning Oriented Assessment (LOA) with Dr Neil Jones (SiLT 45).
In his Plenary speech on "Assessment for Learning English using Digital Technology", he will introduce a theoretical model of Learning-Oriented Assessment (LOA) as well as the definition and application of game-based learning in this model to create "ecosystems of learning". Finally, he will address the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in ecosystems of learning, especially assessment for learning and exemplify how it can be implemented both inside and outside of the classrooms by using a free application called Write & Improve.
