Description
Goldin-Meadow (2003) said that "Gestures play a crucial role in bridging the gap between action and language, facilitating communication and learning.". In my experience teaching and observing kindergarten classrooms. I have identified a prevalent challenge: ineffective gestural communication poses a significant challenge exacerbated by noisy environments and children's developing language comprehension. This workshop addresses these issues by equipping educators with practical skills in utilizing purposeful gestures for efficient classroom communication. By reducing reliance on spoken language, particularly in Vietnamese or complex English, teachers can effectively engage with students while minimizing teacher talk time. The session emphasizes integrated language development, showcasing how gestures facilitate routine instruction and promote seamless comprehension among young learners. Through interactive activities, demonstrations and principles of kindergarten psychology, participants will learn to creatively employ gestures, fostering a conducive learning environment. This workshop aims to empower novice educators to navigate the complexities of classroom dynamics through strategic non-verbal communication strategies, ultimately enhancing student engagement and understanding.
