The world has been witnessed such an booming spreading of AI-generated writings across different disciplines. Education is not an exception. Yet, this implementation is clearly seen with a wide range of potential benefits and challenges. Having said that, the AI tools are widely utilized among university students for their essay-writing process. Thus, this project closely investigated into how university students employed AI-driven tools to support their writing essays. To meet the purpose, screen recording of participants’ whole writing process was used as a primary source of data for the study. Students of different writing-essay classes was called for their voluntary screen recording of their writing process. Results showed an intensive use of AI tools among the participants for various purposes, including brainstorming, searching for vocabulary, getting feedback, and proofreading. The findings of the current project helps educators, researchers and stakeholders to revise their approach to teach students how to write essay effectively.
