Speaker
Description
To enhance English teaching and learning in Vietnam and align it more closely with that of neighboring countries, a trial run of the New English Textbook has been implemented in selected schools in Vietnam. While receiving praise for its engaging content, interactive activities, and tasks, the textbook also poses challenges for teachers in effectively utilizing it. This research aims to provide practical guidance for secondary school English teachers to effectively incorporate the Speaking skills section of the new textbook into their teaching practices, considering both their students' needs and the demands of their teaching environments. Participants will learn to evaluate the content and activities of the Speaking sections of the new English Textbook using a set of evaluation criteria. They will then be guided to integrate this evaluation with their understanding of their students' characteristics and current teaching context to make decisions about lesson organization and potential adaptation of materials to support student learning better. What stands out is the wealth of hands-on experience shared between trainers and participants. Proposed ideas and activities are thoroughly discussed to ensure their practicality, and all resources generated are made readily available for immediate use and future reference.
