Nowadays, teaching English to young learners draws great attention all over the world in general and in Viet Nam in particular. Thus, the current study investigates into the use of phonics in teaching and learning English at some primary schools or Eglish Centers as well.The first aim of this study is to investigate primary teachers’ perceptions of using phonics in teaching English to children. The second aim of this study is to find out what kind of techniques teacher often use to teach phonics in English classes. In order to obtain reliable results both qualitative and quantitive methods of were used. The data were collected through the questionnaires, interviews and class observation. The finding of the study revealed that the teachers had positive perceptions of using the phonics in teaching English. Phonics is an important way in helping teachers teach pronunciation to their children easily and effectively. Therefore, phonics is successful when used as the core strategy of a course or as a strong supplement to English teaching of Primary schools.
